With its trade-mark fruity nose and lowish alcohol, this is the benchmark wine in Emilia Romagna. The most well-known varieties of Lambrusco are Sorbara, Grasparossa di Castelvetro and Salamino di Santacroce. Lambrusco is the perfect wine for pairing with the classic, traditional food of Emilia Romagna: fresh hand-made pasta and tortellini, “zampone” (stuffed pig's trotter) and “cotechino” (a type of pork sausage) and the time-honoured cold meats and cheeses with Parmesan and Grana Padano top of the bunch.
