La storia
Castello Monaci is not far from Lecce, a short distance from the sea just outside of Salice Salentino. The estate is surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and vigorous vineyards. The avenue which leads to the Castello traces a line across the estate, a meridian which separates the vines and opens the doors to the white cellar made of Lecce stone. The Castello Monaci vineyards - 210 hectares surrounding the Castle and the winery – provide one of the most important models of innovative vine-growing in the Salento. Preference is given to local varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera di Lecce which, thanks to the peculiarities of the terroir and painstaking management of the vines, give optimum fruit and wines of the highest quality. Castello Monaci, a winery in white built with the local 'tufo' stone that casts its sharp shadow on the vines, encapsulates innovation and refined technologies and under the careful eye of the conoisseur opens up to reveal a cellar carved out of the hardest rock housing over 1.000 French oak barriques where the important red wines of Salento are aged.
