We are in Tuscany, in the Val d'Orcia. Here among cypresses, olive trees and sunny hills stands a medieval village, among the most evocative and evocative in Tuscany. We are in Montalcino, a fortress with its perched cottages and stone walls where you can still breathe the air of ladies and knights. In 1840 Clemente Santi founded the “Tenuta Il Greppo” two kilometers south of the town of Montalcino, on a hill with steep and craggy sides from which the name “Il Greppo” derives, meaning precisely “barren and steep side of a mountain or hill.” Here Clement began to cultivate a particular type of Sangiovese, Sangiovese grosso, later christened “bruno” and then “brunello” because of its precisely dark and intense color.
